Cellulose Nanocrystals Mimicking Micron-Sized Fibers to Assess the Deposition of Latex Particles on Cotton

چکیده
We report the interactions of cationic latex particles synthesized by RAFT/MADIX-mediated emulsion polymerization with anionic cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) and cotton fabrics. Latexes in size range 200-300 nm poly(butyl acrylate) or poly(2-ethylhexyl hydropho-bic cores hydrophilic shell are synthesized. show that latex/CNC interaction is me-diated electrostatics, being strongest most charged particles. The adsorption process efficient does not require any functionalization step for either latex. A major result observation cryogenic transmission electron micros-copy latexes coated entangled arrays CNCs, softer a notable deformation their structure into faceted polyhedra. By labeling hydrophobic carbocyanine dyes, deposition on woven fabrics studied situ quantified fluorescence microscopy. As highest wet dried states achieved latexes. This demonstrates CNCs can serve as models to adjust cotton, thus optimize manufac-turing processes development advanced textiles.

Deposition of latex particles at heterogeneous surfaces
Irreversible adsorption (deposition) of colloid particles at heterogeneous surfaces was studied experimentally. The substrate surfaces of desired heterogeneity were produced by covering mica surfaces by positively charged polystyrene latex particles. Then, deposition kinetics of negatively charged latex was studied under diffusion-controlled transport conditions. Particle distributions over sur...
متن کاملMicron-sized intrapulmonary particle deposition in the developing rat lung.
Little is known about the effects of postnatal developmental changes in lung architecture and breathing patterns on intrapulmonary particle deposition. We measured deposition in the developing Wistar-Kyoto rat, whose lung development largely parallels that of humans. Deposition of 2-μm sebacate particles was determined in anesthetized, intubated, spontaneously breathing rats on postnatal days (...
متن کاملPreparation of “Cauliflower-Like” ZnO Micron-Sized Particles
Porous polydivinyl benzene (PDVB) microspheres of narrow size distribution were formed by a single-step swelling process of template uniform polystyrene microspheres with divinyl benzene (DVB), followed by polymerization of the DVB within the swollen template microspheres. The PDVB porous particles were then formed by dissolution of the template polystyrene polymer. Unique "cauliflower-like" Zn...
متن کاملReal-time optical imaging and tracking of micron-sized particles
We report real-time imaging and dynamics monitoring of micrometer predefined and random sized particles by time–space-wavelength mapping technology using a single-detector. Experimentally, we demonstrate real-time line imaging of a 5 lm polystyrene microsphere, glass powder particles and patterns such as fingerprints with up to 5 lm resolution at 1 line/50 ns capture rate. By using the same set...
متن کاملTransitional Properties of Cotton Fibers from Cellulose I to Cellulose II Structure
Mercerized fibers were prepared from native cotton fabrics via NaOH solution treatment at different concentrations. Mercerization led to transformation of the crystal structure of cotton fibers from cellulose I to II when the NaOH concentration was greater than 10 wt%. In addition, the cotton fibers were converted into a swollen and rough state after mercerization treatment. The results of Four...
